Blogging While Watching LOST: He’s Our You

by Christina Gleason on March 25, 2009

My first thought… That doesn’t look like a young Sayid. And it wasn’t. Sayid was the younger brother.

And the “Previously on LOST” gave me a revelation. Young Ben taking Juliet duty bringing Sayid sandwiches. The previews showing Sawyer telling Sayid he’s on his own. Sayid has his axe to grind, and he’s going to plant the seeds for what will become the Purge!

What does Horace mean, he’s going to have to take it to the next level? He’s not such a hippy when he talks like that.

Alright. Why wouldn’t Sayid want to join Sawyer’s party in Otherville? Just because of Ben?

Hurley works in the cafeteria. Not a big stretch for him at least. It’s not quite Mr. Cluck’s, but I bet he’ll make the best of it.

Who is this Oldham? Sawyer called him a psychopath, and Roger’s tone of voice made me think of Sayid the Torturer. I’m guessing that’s where they get the episode title from. Sawyer’s going to tell him “He’s our you.”

And now we find out why Sayid was on Ajira Flight 316. Ben came to tell him that he thinks “someone” murdered John Locke. Funny he would think that, since he’s the one who did it. The “same people” are sitting outside Hurley’s mental institution. So it was Ben’s people out there. He’s orchestrated an awful lot of crap.

What is Oldham giving him? Some sort of truth serum? This doesn’t bode well for our heroes.

Sayid’s drinking a $120 glass of Scotch with the  woman who’s going to have him in handcuffs in a day or two. And not in a fun way. What do you think, she’s playing coy with him to get him to confess to murder? Yeah, that’s gotta be it. She’s a detective or something.

“Ask Sawyer.”
“Who’s Sawyer?”
There’s a close one! Good thing he’s going by LaFleur now. Phew.

“Maybe I should use half a dropper.” LOL! Sayid on acid is pretty amusing. At least he was hopped up so they might just think he was talking nonsense.

Sawyer just voted to kill Sayid. Under duress, but he did it. So how is he going to get Sayid out of this one? He’s going to have to orchestrate an elaborate escape that doesn’t make it look like he did nothing of the sort. He needs to save Sayid without compromising himself and the rest of his friends.

Aha, she’s a bounty hunter. That’s why she’s bringing him to Guam instead of some other location. The guy he killed on the golf course. That was the first one we saw him kill in his flash forwards.

Now Sayid’s getting all philosophical about his purpose. He’s starting to sound like Locke.

Umm… burning DHARMA bus? Whose house was that? Hoodie Ben got beat down by his daddy, and he set a bus on fire to create a diversion to bust Sayid out of the slammer before he has to walk the green mile.

Sayid’s purpose is to deliver Ben to the Hostiles? Oh dear. Seems I was right.

… and it seems I was wrong. He tried to change history by killing young Ben. But that can’t happenn or it will cause all sorts of paradoxes. So the island won’t let the kid die. What’s it going to be, a book in his pocket?

Shipper Love for Sayid and Nadia

by Christina Gleason on July 21, 2008

We know that their relationship is doomed to be cut tragically short when Nadia is murdered less than a year after she and Sayid find each other again, but I try not to dwell on that.

Sayid and Nadia didn’t have it easy from the beginning. It was his job to torture her when she was captured by the Iraqi Republican Guard, then to execute her. But he couldn’t pull the trigger on her. Instead, he killed his fellow soldiers and shot himself in the leg so that she could escape. She made it to the United States, where she had a brief encounter with John Locke. Sayid was on his way to see her, he believed, when Oceanic Flight 815 changed his plans by crashing on the island.

I loved the scene in “There’s No Place Like Home” where she waited for him outside the press conference. What a kiss! What a homecoming!

And even though Hurley’s parents chose an unfortunate surprise birthday party theme, Sayid and Nadia look so happy together as guests. How much longer do they have, at that time, before she gets run down by the car in Los Angeles? Never mind. I want to remember them happy:

Blogging While Watching LOST: There’s No Place Like Home

May 15, 2008

So now is as good a time as any to apologize for using “Keamy” and “the captain” interchangeably. I didn’t realize that the guy Keamy shot was the captain. Oh, and the internet ate my first draft of this post up to the first commercial break, so I may have left some things [...]

Blogging While Watching LOST: The Shape of Things to Come

April 24, 2008

Jack still has quite a store of medication left in that suitcase! I wonder if the drugs are still as effective after sitting out in the heat and direct sunlight for so long.
Vincent and Bernard have discovered the body of… is that the doctor from the Kahana? Okay, thanks for that Dan.
“We’re all [...]

“N. I’ll always be with you. R. G.” That’s the inscription on the inside of Naomi’s bracelet.
Is Sayid getting off the island now? That seems too easy.
Sayid plays golf, and is good enough to be a betting man about it. And apparently it’s not too easy. Sayid really does get off [...]

LOST’s Leading Men

January 31, 2007

Sawyer. My personal favorite.  Honestly, how many [heterosexual] women don’t love the bad boys? He’s got that slow, sexy drawl.  He always has a snappy comeback, or at least a funny nickname for people.  He’s done some really despicable things, but he has the capacity for good. He loves his daughter.  He loves Kate.  He wears [...]
