LOST Theories

Theories about the Season 6 Premiere

by Christina Gleason on June 11, 2009

We’re all going through a bit of LOST withdrawal, so I thought it would be fun to poll my friends on Twitter to see what they thought might happen in the Season 6 premier. Here are their theories in 140 characters or less, in the order in which I received them:

martinbowling I think S6 of #LOST will finally be the Zombie season we have all been wait for!!

Skitzzo I think the bomb will have caused (or enhanced) the “event” & they’ll have to start pushing the button.

BuckDaddy #LOST i think miles has it right. the h bomb causes the problem and starts it all over

johnsantangelo the nuke worked. they went about their lives. catching up with everyone, including those originally on the island.

Skitzzo  I’m firmly in the “whatever happened, happened” camp #LOST

martinbowling  I kept teetering back and forth but after the finale I am in the “whatever happened, happened” camp

martinbowling  although the conversation between smoke monster guy and jacob made it seem like the “cycle” could be broken

vinceblackham that’s a toughie! I think the bomb went off, but they’re still on the island. Maybe have one or two more things left to do.

Skitzzo I think Smokey & Jacob were talking more about human nature, not a time loop or cycle. #LOST

julialadewski i have no idea what’s going to happen. maybe they will all end up living on the island forever!!

I’m an Other, You’re an Other

by macaroniandglue on February 10, 2009

If past seasons of LOST have been all about the what (What is this place? What force brought the Losties here? What is the smoke monster? And what in the world is going on with the space/time continuum?), with the revelation earlier this season that Charles Widmore was, in 1954 at least, an “other,” a “hostile” or one of the island’s “indigenous people,” the central question seems to have shifted to who. Now that we think we know what the others are and how long they’ve been around, it would seem that we now need to figure out who they are.

If Widmore’s an other, but he no longer lives on the island, suddenly the possibility exists that there are other others living off the island. And if Widmore’s in charge of this find-the-island business, are there more off-island others somehow involved? We know that Mr. Paik, Sun’s father, has ties to Widmore. Is he one of them? Is that why Sun ended up on the plane? What about Christian Shephard? He had two kids on 815 is now acting as the same sort of “guide” Mrs. Hawking seems to be. Is he an other too? And Mrs. Hawking? We are obviously to assume that she is both Daniel’s mother and “Ellie,” the gun-wielding blonde in 1954. She’s definitely an other.

So, taking a giant leap of faith here, let’s recap:
1. Daniel Faraday’s mom is an other.
2. Penny’s dad is an other.
3. Jack’s and Claire’s dad might be an other, making Aaron an island-born possible grandson of an other.
4. Sun’s dad might be an other, making Ji Yeon the island-conceived possible granddaughter of an other.
5. Charlotte appears to have been born on the island, so there’s a possibility that one or both of her parents were others.

It also seems that we’ve got some Dharma kids in the mix. It’s a pretty safe bet that Miles will turn out to be the island-born son of Dr. Marvin Candle/Pierre Chang, the lab coat-wearing Dharma boss we saw in the season opener and in all those training videos. Ben is a Dharma brat too, although not, apparently, born on the island. Are there other Dharma connections among the characters we know? I’m willing to bet yes. We know there’s got to be more to the Annie story – she must have a kid around here somewhere.

Looking at this show as a giant equation, with a bunch of different variables to be defined in order to come up with the answer, I think the relationships being revealed this season are going to take us a long way toward defining an important variable – the nature of the current struggle for control of the island. That should get us a whole lot closer to solving the all-important question – why it is that our Losties have found themselves right smack dab in the middle of it. Even if I’m spinning my wheels and none of this matters , it’s nice to have a break from endless theorizing about the smoke monster… as long as it’s a short break.

The Amazing Powers of The Island

August 18, 2008

We have now seen that the island’s reach extends past the boundaries of the island, past the stormy barrier that hides the island from the rest of the world. Michael heard the whispers on the freighter. And he saw Libby.
And apparently the island can control whether or not people live or die… even [...]

Amazing Theory: Jacob’s Kin

August 4, 2008

If you’re looking for some heavy reading during this seemingly endless hiatus, take a look at the theory Jacob’s Kin, written by Garden Mom at MyMedia.
It’s a very long theory, but well thought out and researched. It’s heavy on the Biblical history of Jacob. (It’s easier reading if you’re familiar with the Andrew [...]

Frozen Donkey Wheel, Time Travel, and Time Discrepancies

July 28, 2008

Okay, so we know that, when Ben turned the frozen donkey wheel that moved the island, he was thrown about 10 months into the future, and he landed in Tunisia.
Did the island move forward into the future, too?
If it did, that would help answer a few questions, even if the science of time travel is [...]

Charlotte has been on the Island before?

July 7, 2008

Okay, so according to our resident ghostbuster Miles, Charlotte came “back” to the island. That means that she’d been there before.
How?
My guess is that she was born to one of the members of the DHARMA Initiative. I don’t think that women started dying during pregnancy until after the Purge, when Ben took control [...]

Schroedinger’s Cat Doctor

April 25, 2008

Vincent’s barking alerts Bernard to a dead body washing up on the shore of the beach. The body is that of the Kahana doctor.
When Daniel gets the radio working enough to send Morse code to and from the ship, he tells them about the doctor’s body washing up on shore, and (to paraphrase) is [...]

Karl to Alex: I’ve got a bad feeling about this

March 21, 2008

It’s not just a Star Wars quote any more. Not that Karl has ever seen Star Wars before.
Karl was right. Ben was playing them. He sent Alex off to the Temple with the two people who are the biggest thread to his relationship with her – her mother and her boyfriend. [...]

Entertainment Weekly article explains LOST questions

March 7, 2008

There is some excellent time travel confirmation, Desmond clarification, and more going on in this EW article with Doc Jensen and Damon Lindelof.
Personally, I can’t wait for the upcoming episode that revisits Desmond’s flashbacks with the course-correction that follows his time travel adventures.
Quote of the century:
Lightning flashed. Frank pulled up and out of trouble. So [...]

Aaron is one of the Oceanic Six – and I am LIVID

February 24, 2008

There will be no squee-ing in this post.
It was slowly revealed throughout “Eggland” that Kate had a son. That was the “he” she was referring to when talking to Jack in the first flash forward we saw in “Through the Looking Glass.”
At first, I thought that Kate was just bluffing Sawyer about not being [...]
