Blogging while watching LOST: “The Brig”

by Christina Gleason on May 2, 2007

Please, please, please… PLEASE reveal Cooper as the real Sawyer. How many commercial breaks will we have to go through before the reveal? If there is one…. and I’m counting on it.

“Don’t you know where we are?” Creepy! This bodes well for those who believe that Locke has been on the island before. Because of his father.

Ben seems to think that taking pregnant women from the beach camp is fine and dandy. Of course it’s not the first time, Ben. We’ve been watching for three seasons. Why not just ask them? Explain to them why you want them with you? Having lived on the island his whole life, he really needs to work on those social skills.

Jack was with the Others for 10 days. Is that all? It seems like he was with them for months. The timeline does drag on a bit.

Whoa… scary Sawyer. I thought he was about to turn green and start smashing things. *shudder* I’m still betting on Locke’s prisoner being Cooper, not Ben.

Ben apologized to the myriad of Others for the lack of a public execution. I almost wonder if the real test was to see if he wouldn’t kill him, rather than what he was asked to do.

And in the belly of the Black Rock with a bag over his head… was Cooper. Okay, at least I can chalk one of for the evening. And we’re at the halfway point.

Why would Richard Alpert confide in Locke about Ben wanting everyone to see him fail? Oh, I see. He kinda sides with Juliet in the want for new leadership. This is very encouraging!

PAYOFF! TWO FOR TWO!

So Cooper gets rear-ended and gets the Scully treatment – the The X-Files – Fight the Futurebit where the fake ambulance opts for the cryogenic alien-breeding chamber in the Antarctic instead of the hospital ward – but he finds himself on the island instead of a spaceship. And he thinks he’s in hell. (Sartre comes to mind – Hell is other people. Or in this case Other people?) Oh, the kittens. Someone think of the kittens! (The ones that die whenever someone mentions Purgatory, which is only a breath away from hell in this case.)

Okay, so I wanted Cooper to be revealed as Sawyer… but that whole scene was so disturbing. The way Cooper reacted so flippantly. You could see the rage building on Sawyer’s face. He didn’t take him seriously, when Sawyer’s whole life was building toward this moment… much like Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride. (“Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”) I know Sawyer shot the guy he thought was the real Sawyer back in Sydney. It’s one thing to shoot a guy. It’s a quick, impersonal manner of death. Strangling Cooper with the chain – *shudder* – that was disturbing. It only takes a moment of rage to pull a trigger. But Sawyer had to follow through, pulling the chain tighter until Cooper stopped struggling…

Oh Kate, how can you be so stupid? You just told Juliet about Naomi. Wait, what? What do Jack and Juliet know about Naomi?

One last thought. Thank you, Ben, for the throwaway line about the magic box being a metaphor. I wonder if that was added in just to shut the fans up about some of the wilder theories about a literal magic box.

Locke tells Sawyer that he kidnapped Ben and that he wants Sawyer to kill him. But in the promo, we don’t see Ben. We see a man with a bag over his head. I think that Locke has Cooper gagged with the bag over his head. He wants Sawyer to kill him because he doesn’t want the blood on his own hands.

If I’m right, this could very well go to show us whether or not Cooper is the real Sawyer. And if he is… does Locke already know?

I don’t read spoilers, so there may be people who can prove or disprove my theory right now. Please don’t. :)

Anthony Cooper – if that is his real name – a.k.a. Locke’s father

March 23, 2007

Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?  Locke’s father is shaping up to be the big bad guy here on LOST.  We got to know him as Anthony Cooper.  But he’s also gone by Adam Seward.  For simplicity’s sake, I will refer to him mainly as Cooper. What’s in a name? Cooper (noun) – a [...]

Blogging while watching LOST: The Man From Tallahassee

March 21, 2007

I haven’t been surprised by anything we’ve seen before or after the first commercial break.  We’re on the second commercial break now, and I haven’t seen anything important that wasn’t on the episode promos except for Kate and Sayid getting caught in their little raid on Otherville.  Sure, there was the little tease with John Locke [...]
