Jack’s eye. In L.A. He’s got quite a spot of blood on his neck. David “made breakfast” by opening a box of cereal. He has a concert tonight. Mom’s coming, too. We’re finally going to see who his mom is!
Good morning, Claire. It’s good to see her not crazy again.
Oceanic found Christian’s coffin. It will be arriving by the end of the day. Um… That was Desmond, faking an American accent. What’s his game?
The island.
Jack stitches Kate up so she doesn’t get infected. That’s gotta hurt like crazy.
“They have a little girl, you know. Ji Yeon. Jin hadn’t even met her yet. Locke did this to them. We have to kill him, Jack.”
“I know.”
Finally, someone’s talking some sense!
Wreckage washes up on shore. Sawyer stares out over the ocean. He’s gotta be feeling crazy guilty right now for precipitating the destruction of the submarine.
Jack’s plan is to get Desmond out of the well that Sayid told him about.
In L.A.
Locke’s back at work, but there’s Desmond in his car. Is he going to do it again? Ben tries to make a citizen’s arrest. Desmond beats him up instead… and Ben has flashes of the island, when Desmond beat him up. Nice.
Ben, Miles, and Richard. We haven’t seen them in a while! Miles lived in the houses 30 years before Ben did. Otherwise known as last week. Ha! Ben has C4 in his secret room behind the bookcase.
Miles… what is he hearing? Alex. This is where she was executed. Richard buried her there. Ben thanks him.
“What’s that? A secreter room?”
“That’s the room where I was told I could summon the monster. That’s before I realized it was the one summoning me.”
Taking all six blocks of C4 to blow the plane to hell.
There’s Zoe. And Widmore.
“Hello, Benjamin. May I come in?”
The look on Ben’s face is AWESOME! I think Charles Widmore was the absolute last person he expected to see there.
Widmore pours himself a glass of water. Zoe’s going to go sink the outrigger for him. Widmore did rig it with explosives. Jacob visited Widmore after the freighter was destroyed.
In L.A.
“This may sting a little bit, Mr. Linus.”
“It’s Dr. Linus, actually.”
Locke is concerned about Ben’s incident in the parking lot. Ben tells Locke he believed Desmond when he told him that he wasn’t trying to hurt Locke, he was just trying to help him let go.
Desmond is at the LAPD. Miles tells Sawyer he could still be his date to the benefit concert at his father’s museum. Desmond confesses to the hit-and-run and the beating. Sawyer thanks him for saving the taxpayers’ money. Sayid is in lockup. So is Kate. Hmm.
The island.
Jack and Sawyer have a heart to heart.
“I killed them, didn’t I?”
“No. He killed them.”
Don’t beat yourself up so much, Sawyer. There was no way of knowing.
Hurley just saw young Jacob. He wants the ashes he took from Ilana’s body. Young Jacob took the ashes and ran. Hurley finds adult Jacob on a log. His ashes are in the fire. When it burns out, Hurley will never see Jacob again.
“You should get your friends. We’re getting really close to the end, Hugo.”
Smokey Locke looks menacing on the dock.
Widmore wants to hide in the secret room. Ben wants to face Locke. Miles wants to run through the jungle. Richard wants to talk to Locke, maybe give everyone a chance by offering to join him. Miles takes off. Ben follows Richard out.
Where is he? Oh good, we can hear him. And Richard is now smoke paste. Unless he really can’t die and somehow survived that.
Ben sits in a rocking chair. Locke sits next to him, pulls out his knife. He needs Ben to kill some people for him. Then he can have the island all to himself after Locke leaves. Ben sells out Widmore hiding in his closet.
In L.A.
Alex wants to know what happened to Ben. Says her mom can drive him home. “You have one hand. You look like Napolean.”
Non-crazy Danielle! Danielle and Alex invite him over to have coq au vin for dinner… even if they have to kidnap him. Ha! Oh my. Danielle is flirting with him. Tells Ben that with all the attention he’s paid to Alex, he’s the closest thing to a father she’s ever had, since her father died when she was two. Ben is crying.
The island.
Ben wants to watch Locke go after Widmore and “his lady friend.” And Zoe gets her throat slashed. Bye bye. Locke swears that the first thing he’ll do when he leaves the island is to kill his daughter, Penny. Unless he talks.
Widmore brought Desmond Hume back to the island because of his unique resistance to electromagnetism as a measure of last resort. He won’t say more with Ben in the room. Ben shoots Widmore, says that Charles doesn’t get to save his daughter. Widmore apparently told Locke what he wanted to know already. Ben asks who else he needs to kill. Will he be the Gollum figure in this story? Only through his betrayal does he make it possible to destroy the evil?
Hurley brings Kate, Jack, and Sawyer to see Jacob. They can actually see him. Kate wants to know why her friends died, that they didn’t die for nothing. Jacob says to sit down, and he’ll tell everyone what they died for. Why he chose them all. As well as how to protect the island, because when the fire dies out, one of them is going to have to start doing it.
In L.A.
Locke comes to see Jack. I think that Locke is starting to see the destiny light. He doesn’t think that it’s all serendipity.
“Maybe you’re supposed to fix me.”
The island.
Jacob brought everyone here because of a mistake he made a long time ago. “You call him the monster. But I’m responsible for what happened to him. I made him that way. And ever since then, he’s been trying to kill me.” It was only a matter of time before he figured out how to do it, so he had to find a replacement. Jacob didn’t pluck anyone out of a happy existence. They were all flawed. They were like him, all alone, looking for something they couldn’t find out there. They needed this place more than it needed them. He crossed Kate’s name off because she became a mother, but the job is hers if she wants it. They need to protect the light from the smoke monster. To do so, they’re going to have to kill Smokey. Jacob isn’t going to choose his replacement. He wants to give them what he wasn’t given… a choice. Things will go badly if none of them want it.
Jack says he’ll do it. This is what he’s supposed to do.
“It’s time.”
Torch light. Sawyer makes a wise crack about Jack’s God complex. Ha. Jack woke up just over the ridge from the heart of the island where the light is. Now he’ll be able to get there.
“Do you have a cup?” Jacob chants something… Did he dribble his blood into the water for Jack to drink? Communion parallel; got it. Jack wants to know how long he’ll have to do this job. Jacob says, as long as he can.
“Now you’re like me,” Jacob says, just as his crazy Mama said to him. The others look on.
Sawyer comes to get his three jailbirds to be shipped off to County. Kate tries to get Sawyer to let her go. “You don’t seem like a cop to me.”
“I think it’s time to leave,” Desmond said. “Don’t you want to get out of here?” He wants Sayid and Kate to trust him when the driver stops. They just have to promise to do as Desmond asks once they get out.
Ana-Lucia was the driver! She took a bribe to let them out. Hurley’s delivering the money.
“You didn’t tell me Ana-Lucia was going to be here.”
“Do I know you?”
“No, we’ve never met.”
Hurley rememebrs it all. Desmond and Kate are going to a concert. Sayid’s with Hurley.
The island.
Ben: “If you can turn yourself to smoke whenever you want, why do you bother walking?”
Locke: “I like the feel of my feet on the ground. It reminds me that I was once human.”
They’re at the well where he left Desmond. Obviously Sayid didn’t kill him. Widmore told Locke that Desmond is the failsafe. If Locke fails to kill all of the candidates, he plans to use Desmond to destroy the island.
I think this episode rocked.
