Here’s the enhanced Pilot episode. Let’s see what the commentary has to say before tomorrow night’s series finally. Jack wakes up in the bamboo field, just over the ridge from the heart of the island with the Light that must never go out. Only the protector of the island – once Jacob, now Jack – can find it.
The island is a metaphorical cork that literally prevents all hell from breaking loose. It has magical healing powers that cured Locke’s paralysis and Rose’s cancer.
So many Losties we haven’t seen in ages. (Waaaaalt!) Jack helps people, because that what he does. Claire is having contractions. Gary Troupe got sucked into the engine. Boone is giving Rose CPR. Hurley gets enlisted to stay with Claire. Boone gets sent after a pen. Charlie is barely fazed when a piece of fiery wreckage lands behind him. I guess heroin will do that, huh?
These people survived the plane crash because they were brought to the island for a reason. Free will is still a part of it, but Jacob wanted them there. And as we know, anyone can die at any time. (Wow. Jack has nasty chest hair. Just sayin’.)
No, Jack. Sewing you up is not the same as sewing Kate’s drapes.
Sawyer. Nice first look at him. Smoking. He’s gotten a lot hotter as time has gone on.
John Locke. When he was still John Locke, and not Smokey in Locke’s clothing.
Jack’s crying while telling Kate the story about the fear he felt when he ripped that girl’s dural sac. I didn’t notice that before. From getting stitched up without anesthesia, from the emotion in the story, or from the horror of having lived through a plane crash?
Shannon is painting her toenails. Hurley gives Claire one of the meals he salvaged from the plane. Will we ever know if the psychic knew that Oceanic Flight 815 would crash? Because if he did, he screwed up if he didn’t want Aaron raised by another. You know, since his mom disappeared and went crazy, missing the chance of rescue.
The first appearance of the smoke monster, who we know know as the being formerly known as the Man in Black, Jacob’s brother. Weird that he just sort of makes scary noises at them.
Our first ever flashback. Jack on the plane. Cindy before she got all Otherly and stuff. Turbulence = Desmond accidentally killing Kelvin when he should have been pushing the button. WTG, brutha.
Okay. Jacob, born over 2,000 years ago. We knew that. He and his brother have a disagreement. Jacob brought the candidates to the island. This actually enabled Smokey to find his loophole, wearing Locke’s body to convince Ben to kill Jacob.
Kate isn’t amused by Locke’s orange slice smile.
Charlie wants to take the field trip to find the cockpit because he’s going through heroin withdrawal.
Vincent! Will we see him again tomorrow night? Where has that dog been?
Rain symbolizes danger on the island. Bad stuff happens when it rains. You know, like the smoke monster killing the pilot. (Aww. We have to watch Matt Parkman die again after his series got canceled. I loved Heroes.) Poor Seth Norris. He wasn’t even supposed to be there today. (Yep, that’s me making a Clerks reference.)
These captions aren’t really telling me all that much useful information. Maybe it would be helpful if I wasn’t such a LOST junkie, and was instead a casual viewer. Although I have no idea how you can be a casual viewer of this show. I’m still waiting for the captions to tell me something big that I missed and didn’t get before.
First Smokey kill of the series. Coming up. I’d forgotten how much time the pilot had to actually talk to Jack and Kate before he got destroyed. Why the pilot? I don’t understand Smokey’s motivation there. I mean, he left Frank Lapidus alive for a very long time. (There’s still the slightest possibility that Frank survived the explosion in the submarine, I guess, but I’m not holding my breath.)
Terrified Kate in the jungle! Charlie doesn’t know where Jack is. Good thing that Smokey can’t directly kill any of the candidates. Wait, who did that say it was okay to kill because he wasn’t on Jacob’s list? I’m guessing it was talking about the pilot, since he’s dead.
We need to see Charlie tomorrow night. I miss him. You know, Charlie never could have gotten his stash on the plane that way after the guy tried to blow up a plane with an explosive in his shoe. Now we all have to take our shoes off at security, and Charlie would’ve needed a better hiding place.
I do not miss the old Jin, the controlling husband who told Sun to button up and not talk to anyone else.
I do wonder if we’ll see Walt tomorrow night, if he will turn out to be important after all. Or if they decided that his entire storyline was a red herring because he sprouted like a weed during filming.
Sayid and Sawyer have a pit fight. Don’t break it up! Sawyer calls Jack “Doc” for the first time. “You’re the hero.” I guess that’s true.
Oh yeah. Don’t bother with the transceiver, guys. You don’t know about them yet, but the Others are blocking your signal. They have a secret underwater station that the other Others don’t even know about, jamming all communications. You’re screwed.
Shannon finally looks pathetic, realizing the enormity of the situation. Oh… I’d forgotten all about how Sayid and Shannon got together. It seems like forever ago.
Nice hike! Interesting. Sawyer ends up helping Kate up, and Sayid helps Shannon up. It’s almost like foreshadowing for their eventual relationships.
Ah yes, the light and dark. Jacob and the Man in Black. Backgammon. It all comes down to this, apparently.
Claire eats Jin’s sea urchin or anenome or whatever… and magically, Aaron kicks for the first time in two days. Jin is comically horrified when she puts his hand on her stomach to share the moment.
Polar bear. It was all so mysterious in the first season. Now we’re all like, “Polar bears? Oh yeah, the DHARMA Initiative was studying them.”
I just got a message on Twitter from someone that may be a spoiler for how it all ends tomorrow night. If it’s true, I’m going to be so freaking angry. Why do people DO that sort of thing?
I forgot about the creepy Agent Mars waking up and grabbing Jack by the collar scene. It’s like in the horror movies when the zombie’s hand reaches up out of the grave.
Danielle’s distress call. Shannon contributes by translating the French.
“Guys, where are we?”
You’re LOST!
