Blogging While Watching LOST: Lighthouse

by Christina Gleason on February 23, 2010

(Last week’s episode is just finishing up. They’re making a point of telling us that Jacob literally touched each of the remaining candidates. It just noticed the significance of Jack’s number being 23. In the Bible, Psalm 23 says, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want…” Jack Shepard is number 23. Gotcha.)

Photos on a desk. Jack’s desk. Trying to hastily get ready for his father’s funeral even though he doesn’t have the body? He seems puzzled by the scratch/scar on his abdomen. He had his appendix taken out when he was 7 or 8, but he didn’t remember. (My husband just pointed out that Kate helped Juliet take it out on the island.)

Wait… Jack has a son, David?

The Island.

Jack is talking to Dogen.

“Is leaving an option?”
“Everything is an option. But I would hav to stop you.”

They appreciate each other’s honesty.

Hurley and Miles are playing tic tac toe with island flora. I love it. They’re hungry, looking for something to eat. Jacob is at the spring, talking to Hurley. He told Hurley to get a pen to write a few things down. (A list?)

“Someone is coming to the island. I need you to help him find it.” It wouldn’t be Desmond, would it? Ooh, or Walt? Please don’t let it be a new character.

In L.A.

David is unzipping his backpack. Jack hooked up the cable in his room so he can watch the Red Sox. David is listening to a band his dad has never heard of. They only see each other once a month. He wants to just “get through with it.”

The kid has taste. He’s eating Milano cookies. Jack is going to his mom’s house.

The island.

Everyone is staring at Sayid. Jack tells Sayid to ignore them. Then he confesses that the pill was poison. The infection has happened to someone else…

Claire gets Jin out of the nasty bear trap. She’s been out there since they left, for three years. She’ll get him someplace safe. But he keeled over.

Hurley is in the Temple, using crib notes scribbled on his arm to decipher the glyphs on the wall. Dogen tells him to go back to the courtyard. Jacob told Hurley to tell Dogen that he’s a candidate and he can do what he wants. He won’t translate what Dogen said to him. “You don’t want to know.” Jacob tells Hurley that he has to bring Jack with him.

Jacob told Hurley to tell Jack, “You have what it takes… You’d know what that meant.”

“He’s dead. He turns up when he wants, kinda like  Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Bwahaha!

Jin is on a cushion. His leg is so incredibly bloody. Using an oar as a crutch. Creepy cradle with fake baby in there.

Claire has a prisoner. “He was just pretending to be dead, but he wasn’t. Now we get to talk to him.” She wants to know where her son is. She claims she hasn’t been out there by herself. The other guy tells Jin she’s going to kill them both if they don’t get out of there.

Hurley is leading Jack through the jungle. Stumbled on Kate, who almost shot Jack. Hurley told him about the secret door.

“Dude. Jacob said just you and me. She’s not invited.”

In L.A.

Jack’s ugly vehicle. Trying to help his mom find Christian’s will. That fancy McCutcheon is on the liquor cart.

David didn’t tell Jack he was really upset at the funeral. But apparently he told Grandma.

“How do you know David isn’t terrified of you?”
“Why would he be terrified of me?”
“I don’t know, Jack. Maybe you should ask him.”

She found his will. Claire Littleton is in it.

The  island.

Claire is sharpening something. She’s going to stitch Jin up. She’s apparently had to stitch herself up after beign shot. “Lucky I’m still alive.”

“How do you know they took [Aaron]?”
“Because first my father told me. And then my friend told me.”
“Your friend?”
“You’re still my friend. Aren’t you, Jin?”

This scene was too much like Kathy Bates in Misery for my comfort.

[Old Spice commercial. Ha!]

“Sorry about what happened back there. Wrecking your game with Kate.”

Hurley thinks Jack would make a great dad. They found Shannon’s asthma inhaler. They’re at the caves. Adam and Eve.

“What if these skeletons are us?” Hurley musing about time travel. Talking about things the fans have been thinking.

Jack found the caves chasing after the ghost of his dead father.

In L.A.

Jack brought home pizza and Coke. David isn’t in his room. Jack’s worried sick, up late drinking a beer. Calling David’s cell phone, got voice mail. Checking at David’s mom’s house, who is out of town. Key under a stone rabbit on the porch. “White Rabbit” tie-in.

David’s room. Sheet music. Photo booth pics. Message for David, had a slot at the Williams Conservatory at 7:00 on the 24th. Followed by Jack’s message from Sydney.

On the island.

“This is cool, dude. Very old school.” Trekking through the jungle on their way to do something they don’t understand. Ha! Hurley wants to know why Jack came back. Hurley listened to Jacob. Jack came back because he was broken and stupid enough to believe this place could fix him.

“Dude, I’m sorry.”

It’s a lighthouse.

“How is it that we’ve never seen it before?”
“I guess we weren’t looking for it.”

Claire wants to know where her son is. She was taken to the Temple and tortured. She was  stuck with needles and branded, like Sayid was.

Jin stopped her from killing the Other. Told her that Kate took Aaron off the island with her. That he’s three now.

She killed the guy anyways. The axe is still sticking out of his chest. Jin is understandably horrified.

Jack and Hurley at the lighthouse. They need to turn it on. But the door is jammed.

In L.A.

Jack showed up for David’s audition. The kid is amazing on the piano. Hands are gliding over the keys. Jack is in awe, tearing up with emotion.

“Is that your son?”
“Yes.”
“He’s really good.”

Dogen’s son!

“They are too young to have this kind of pressure, aren’t they?” Interesting.

The island.

Poor Hurley is winded from climbing up the stairs. It has to get to 108 degrees. What did Jack see in the mirrors there? Each degree has a name next to it. 23 degrees shows Jack’s house where he grew up.

“He’s been watching us. The whole time, he’s been watching us.”

Crazy Jack with the baseball bat. Smashed up the mirrors because he didn’t get the answers he wanted. Dude, we know it’s frustrating, but don’t you think that was a bit of a rash decision?

In L.A.

David getting his bike. Surprised to see Jack there. Jack confesses to being scared when he wasn’t home. David said his mom made him promise not to tell him he still played because Jack was a bit intense about it. He didn’t invite him to the audition because he didn’t want his dad to see him fail. Father/son moment. Jack doesn’t want David to feel like Christian made him feel, like he didn’t have what it takes. “In my eyes, you can never fail.” Aww. They’re going back home for some (cold) pizza.

The island.

Staring out over the cliff. Jacob shows up a little bit late. “Thanks for the seven years of bad luck, by the way.” Hurley is nonplussed that Jacob doesn’t seem to care. But then he realizes that Jacob wanted Jack to see what was in the mirror.

“Next time, tell me everything up front. I’m not so big on the secret plans.”

Jacob wanted them out of the Temple. Someone bad is coming. And it’s too late.

Claire had to kill that guy. Jin is lying to Claire. She’s so glad he was lying about Kate, because she would have had to kill Kate. Yikes. Jin is going to show her a secret way into the Temple. That must be what Jacob was telling Hurley about.

And, big surprise, Smokey Locke is Claire’s friend. (That was sarcasm.)
