Blogging While Watching LOST: Everybody Loves Hugo

by Christina Gleason on April 13, 2010

Dr. Chang is doing a little bio montage for Hurley. The opening of the Hugo Reyes Paleontology wing at the museum. Hurley is quite the philanthropist! He’s getting a standing ovation at this gala. A dinosaur trophy.

“You know who doesn’t love Hugo? Women!” LOL Mama Reyes. She set him up on a date with some chick named Rosalita.

The island.

Hurley puts a flower on Libby’s grave. (Can we please see her in the alternate timeline?) He wants to know why she hasn’t come to see him since she died. Ilana wants Hurley to come with him to get dynamite. He tells her about Libby and how they were going to go on a picnic for their first date… then she was murdered. Man, that seems like forever ago. It took me a moment to remember that Michael shot her to let Ben escape from the Swan station…

The whispers. Michael! He’s here to stop Hurley from getting everyone killed.

“You gonna say something?” Apparently it doesn’t matter that he murdered Libby and Ana-Lucia. If he goes to blow up the plane on Hydra Island, people are going to die, and it’s going to be Hurley’s fault because people listen to him now. Jack breaks up the reunion so they can go.

I think Hurley’s getting stood up at Spanish Johnny’s. Dude… It’s Libby! She knew his name… and if she tells him why, he’s going to think she’s crazy. She takes his hands across the table, asks if he believes people can be like soulmates. But he doesn’t remember her.

The doctor came to get her… she wandered off. She was (is) in Santa Rosa’s because she’s one of the people who “remembers” the island!

The island.

Ilana talks about the plan. Hurley doesn’t think it’s such a great plan. Maybe Richard is wrong. Richard had a funny look on his face… did he try to re-negotiate with Locke?

Ilana blew up! (Dude, you’ve got some Arzt on you.)

Locke’s camp. Sawyer and Kate have some questions for him. Locke says they’re waiting for Hugo and friends. “To get off this God-forsaken rock.” Interesting choice of words.

Sayid is back. He wants to speak to Locke in private. Sawyer scowls.

Sayid found what Widmore was hiding in the submarine. And he has Desmond tied to a tree. Okay…

Hurley on the beach. He found a pouch that he’s taking. Richard wants to find more dynamite. Jack thinks maybe Ilana died to show them not to use the dynamite. Hurley says he thinks Richard is right. What was in the pouch?

In L.A.

“Give me a bucket. Family size.” Ah, Mr. Cluck’s. There’s Desmond in his beatnik sunglasses. Desmond thinks he recognizes him from Oceanic Flight 815. “Wow. What a coincidence.” Deadpan.

“I eat when I’m depressed.”
“So what’s her name?”

He met someone on a blind date. She was awesome, but there’s only one problem… she’s crazy.

Desmond wants to know, “Did you believe her when she said she knew you?”
“Yeah.”
“Then I say go with your gut.”

Desmond has  order 42.

The island.

Desmond tied to the tree. Locke crouches down to meet him at eye level. “I have nowhere to run to, brother.” So Locke cut him free. As free as he can be, I suppose.

Desmond seems too serene.

“Why did Charles Widmore bring you back to the island?”
“Considering I was kidnapped, you might want to ask him.”

He told him about the electromagnetism. Why?

“Do you know who I am?”
“Of course. You’re John Locke.”

Does he really believe that? Or is he playing him?

Locke is taking Desmond for a walk to show him something.

Ben marching through the jungle. Ilana was hand-picked by Jacob to protect the candidates. As soon as she told them who they were, she was blown up. The island was done with her. “Kinda makes you wonder what will happen when the island is done with us.”

They’re at the Black Rock. Hurley appears, running… telling everyone to run. He blew up the entire ship!

Richard is wild-eyed. “Why’d you DO that?”

Did Hurley say, “I’m protecting him” or “I’m protecting it” or “I’m protecting you?”

Richard thinks they’re all dead now. They’re just all staring at the burning wreckage.

“A little warning would’ve been nice,” Miles said.
“I did tell you to run.”

“That happen a lot? Dead people yelling at you?”
“Dead people are more reliable than live people.”

In L.A.

Hurley is talking to the doctor about Libby. He wants to see her. The doc doesn’t think it would be a good idea. She has issues with reality. Hurley is willing to make a generous donation of $100k to spruce up the rec room in order to see Libby again.

“You remembered?”
“No. I’m sorry.”
“Then why are you here?”
“Where is it you think you know me from?”
“…I know it won’t make sense.”
“Try me.”
“A few days ago, I was watching TV.” SHe saw one of his commercials, and it was like she was hit over the head with memories that came rushing back from her life, only it was another life. There was a plane crash. She was on an island. Hurley was there. They knew each other. They liked each other. And then when she got to the mental hospital, it was like she’d been there before, and she had a feeling that Hurley had been there before, too. If he could remember her…

But he can’t. She’s crying. Wow, look at that nasty eye makeup.

“Bizarro alternate universe.” Yeah, that’s about how we’d describe it, too, Hurley.

He wants to know if she can go out on a day pass. She’s there voluntarily. He’s asking her out on a date! “I’d love that.”

The island.

Locke wants to know how long Desmond was in the hatch pushing that button. Three years. Why did he come back? “This island has it in for all of us.”

Desmond and Locke both see the dark-haired boy int he jungle. A young Man in Black? Locke gets angry and says to ignore him.

Back to Richard and Jack. Hurley knows what they need to do. They need to go talk to Locke. Jacob says they need to talk to Locke. Richard said to ask him what the island is. Proof that Hurley is really talking to Jacob.

“I don’t have to prove anything to you, Richard. You can either come with me, or you can keep on blowing stuff up.”

Richard doesn’t believe him. If they don’t keep “that thing” from leacving the island, that’s the end… of everything. Ben and Miles are going with Richard. Jack, Sun, and Frank are going with Hurley. They’re splitting up the party again.

And I just noticed that… it’s exactly the people that Locke wants to see in order to get off the island. Is it really Jacob talking to Hurley?

Hurley wieldng a torch. Sun writes a note to Frank, wondering if they made a mistake. “Probably.”

Hurley didn’t see Jacob back there. He just said it so everyone would listen to him. Jack came anyway because he’s wanted to “fix it” ever since Juliet died. It’s hard for him to sit back and listen to other people tell him what to do, but maybe that’s the point. Maybe he’s supposed to let go. “Unless letting go gets us killed.”

Hurley doesn’t know where he’s going, but they are suddenly surrounded by the whispers. He knows what they are. Tells everyone to stay there. He’s looking for Michael, and there he is. He;s stuck on the island because of what he did. The whispers are other people like him who can’t move on. Michael knows where Locke is, points him out. Hurley wants to know if there’s anything he can do to help Michael.

“Don’t get yourself killed. And Hurley, if you ever do see Libby again, tell her I’m very sorry.”
“I’ll be sure and do that, dude.”

In L.A.

Picnic date on the beach! Hurley brought lots of cheese because everyone likes cheese. Libby doesn’t look comfortable. Nothing’s wrong, just off. It’s familiar, like a date they never had. Neither one knows why the other wants to be with them.

“I wanna be with you because I like you.”

Hurley and Libby are kissing! And now Hurley has had his flashes of the island, too!

“Dude… I think I’m remembering stuff!”
“You are? You mean I’m not crazy?”
“No, i don’t think you are.”

Desmond is watching from his car. Time to move on to another Oceanic survivor.

The island.

Locke and Desmond. “We’re here.” At the well. Not the Orchid, obviously. The well is “very old.” So old that the people who dug it did it completely by hand. They weren’t looking for water, they were looking for answers. It made compass needles spin, and the people holding the compasses needed to know why. But they didn’t find what they were looking for. Charles Widmore is not interested in answers, just in power. This isn’t the only well.

“Why aren’t you afraid?”
“We’re out here, middle of the jungle, with me. Not another person on Earth knows you’re here. Why aren’t you afraid?”
“What’s the point in being afraid?”

And Locke pushed Desmond down the well. (Saw that coming.)

Tremulous music. Locke tells Sayid they don’t have to worry about Desmond anymore. Sawyer wants to know where he’s been… And then Hurley, Jack, Frank, and Sun waltz into the camp. (Well, just Hurley is visible.)

“Um… hey.”

Hurley doesn’t know who he is or what he wants, but they need to talk. They’ve got weapons, but he doesn’t want anyone hurt or killed. Locke gives him his word… and his knife.

The gang is almost all back together again. But… poor Sun, Jin isn’t there.

Locke: “Hello, Jack.” Creepy smile.
Jack: Oh crap.

In L.A.

Desmond is sitting in his car outside the school. Ben wants to know why he’s sitting there staring at the kids. He claims to be looking for a school for his son Charlie. He remembers his son’s name here!

Desmond spotted Locke wheeling himself across the parking lot. GUNNED THE GAS PEDAL AND RAN HIM DOWN! YES!
